The Children’s Bell Tower has 140 bells sent by families, most of them Italians, as a way to bond their own children’s stories to that of Nicholas. Some were saved by a transplant, some died on the waiting list, some have no connection to organ donation but their families simply wanted to express their love for them. The magnificent centerpiece was made in the foundry that has been making bells for the papacy for a thousand years and was blessed by Pope John Paul II before it was sent to Bodega Bay, California, where the Green family lived.
